Should My Wedding be Videotaped? : Wedding is an event full of once-in-a-lifetime moments that should be documented and relived with future generations. Imagine what it be like to watch the story of your parent's, or even your grandparent's wedding. Most couples say their wedding day went by so fast that they could hardly remember everything that happened. One of our clients who originally planned not to have a video for their wedding told us how thankful to us. Even the photography is able to capture singular moments, there is no substitute for a living, breathing account of one of the most defining events of your life.
Why should I hire a professional videographer when my friend or relative can tape it with their camcorders for free? : Your friend or relative may have great intentions, but it's very unlikely they have the equipment (professional camcorders, wireless microphones, editing tools...) that a professional has. It's also very unlikely they have the know-how or experience to produce a great video. The truth is, you can just suck reality in through the lens of you camera. You must have the experience of where can have the best angle and how to anticipate the best moments. Besides, you need to edit and organize all you footages. You won't want to leave your four hours wedding video in closet for years without bothering watching it again. Your wedding story is simply too .
What about all those lights, cables, and equipment? Will it overpower my wedding?: We shoot with a combination of highly light sensitive 3-chip digital cameras. Both have excellent low light capabilities. We rarely use stands lights and cables because the room lights are usually adequate. As a matter of fact, we are very good at taking advantage of the natural light and many of our stunning shots are done by the perfect backlight. For ceremony recording, I use small wireless lavaliere microphones for the Pastor and Groom to record the vows. On the rare occasion that cabling for power or audio is needed, I hide them behind objects so nobody will notice it.
How can we get something that isn't trite or boring?: A good video provides a path to the wedding experience without calling attention to itself. You may need to increase your video investment to be able to obtain someone who serves a more savvy clientele.
We ask all prospective couples how their wedding will be unique and how they want it preserved with video. As our client relationship develops, they often share with me how they met and became engaged, and what each finds special about the other. We ask lots of questions up front, attend the rehearsal if possible, and stay alert at the event. We always devlier your wedding video on a DVD, because you can broswe your wedding video with scene selection and skip chapter quickly. It provide a easy way to reach every piece of your memory.
Do you do guest interviews?: Yes, only if you desire. We will make a section called "Blessings" which will keep a record of your close family and friends' interview in your DVD. Some time we like to use some of the sound track from the interview in the a short format video of your wedding (called "highlight") If you’d like to have certain guests interviewed, we work with you beforehand to figure out who you’d like to interview.
What is important in contracting?: To be binding, a contract requires specification (products and services), consideration (money or something of value in exchange), and legality (illegal contracts are not binding). Simply, if you don't have a written contract with your videographer and have not given a deposit or reservation fee, neither of you has an obligation to the other.
The contract should address all the business issues related to the job: schedule of coverage, depth of coverage, features of the finished product, and possibly who the actual camera operators will be, payments, contingencies, and recourses. There is no such thing as a standard contract. Use common sense and insist on everything in writing.
Upon signing the contract, we always read and explain even the "fine print" to clients when they are ready to commit. The only way we will reserve a date is with a written agreement and reservation fee.
Do I need multiple camera coverage? : Almost all of our assignments involved two cameras running simultaneously at the ceremony- one in front and one on back and one for the reception. Some time we involve two cameras at the reception per customer's request.
Should the videographer attend the rehearsal? : Yes, we will go to your rehearsal to check the light, setting and schudle of your wedding to make sure we do the best in your wedding.
Should I provide a meal for my videographers? : Providing some sort of meal is a good gesture that actually benefits you by keeping the crew on site and refreshed. It need not be the regular banquet meal. Wedding video is physically demanding and the workday starts several hours before the ceremony.
What can I do to help my videographer do a good job for me? : Cooperate to the maximum practicable extent by providing all the details of the event, who is important, and anything to help him meet or exceed your expectations. Ask your videographer this same question. Provide a meal. Make sure there's a parking space. Follow the Golden Rule. Furnish your pictures and payments on time.
What if my videographer has an emergency and can't do the job? : That is a universal risk with special events. Even brides and grooms or their families run that risk. Most contracts limit liability to money return in event of failure. We belong to multiple professional videographer associations and network with other videographers, there's an excellent chance there will be backup in such cases.
How much video is actually recorded? : No matter what the assignment, the ratio between the amount of footage we shoot and the amount of footage we use in your final edit is very high. On a typical 12 hour shoot, we’ll wind up with about 8 hours of video to sort through. We know that the more we shoot, the more choices we have in the edit room. Also, it’s not always obvious when the perfect shot is going to land right in front of our noses.
What is in-camera-editing? : The videographer makes an on-site or advance decision what is important. He blends angles and compositions so that the original tape will have a semi-finished appearance. There are some who even release this tape directly with no post-production. Videographers working on tighter budgets record about 1-3/4 to 2 hours by editing in-camera and trim it in post-production. The latter approach has merit if the videographer is skilled at it; such usually gives quick turnarounds. This is a popular practice with videographers serving the lower budget market.
Tapes released at the end of the wedding are great for immediate gratification, but a terrible loss may result if the VCR used for the premier eats the tape!
Can my favorite record be used as background music in the tape?: Yes, we encourage you to use your favorite music to help us make a DVD of truely you own.
When should I get my finished video after the wedding? : Typically, videos will take between 2-4 weeks to complete depending on the season.
What is DVD? : DVD is the next generation of video storage. With the capacity for high quality sound and video, DVD has surpassed video tapes as the new industry standard in quality video storage. A DVD is similar to a CD (compact disc), but has 8 to 10 times the storage capacity. DVD is the first video format that will truly last a lifetime. All the major manufacturers in video media (Sony, Pioneer, Toshiba, Etc.) have embraced DVD, and together have reaped the benefits of DVD being the fastest selling consumer electronic in history.
Why is DVD worth investing in? : DVD is durability. It doesn't wear out after several times watch like VHS tape. Tapes as little as 10 years old could be in serious jeopardy from wear, disintegration, and magnetic fields. A DVD, on the other hand, should last 100 years if properly cared for.
Picture and Sound quality is must better than tape. While a normal VHS tape only offers 200-300 vertical lines of resolutions, a DVD allows a full 480 lines of resolution. Not like VHS, DVD is capable of sound quality that is par with CD quality sound.
It is convienence and organized with menu, scene selection and chapter skip. Many couples told us that the regular wedding video provides a 30 to 40 minutes video of a little here and there which can not reflect their wedding. Besides a highlight MTV style video, we put your whole ceremony in the DVD. With the benefit of scene selection and chapters skip from DVD, you can easily locate the moment you want to see.
How soon before my wedding should I contact you? : Popular summer dates fill up quickly. We recommend booking as soon as possible as it is not uncommon to book 6 months to 1 year in advance.
What type of equipment do you use?: Joseph and I both use quality 3-CCD professional digital camcorders which can allow us to capture your day flawlessly with top quality. Each of us also carry a second camcorder in case of any failure on the equipment. We also use multiple wireless microphes to capture each and every sound of your ceremony with perfect clarity. In the post production, we implement the state of the art computer non-linear editing system including photoshop, premier & after effects and DVD studio Pro to ensure you a personalized and unique Wedding Video production.
How are you different from other videographers in the market?: Client satisfaction is always our first priority and it is rare in today's business world. It is always our passion to create extraordinary customer experience in each video production. We strongly believe that it is not the $50000 camcorders, wireless microphones or state of the art editing system that will make your wedding movie different, it is the people you choose to dedicate to documenting your big day and telling your love story. AT VIG designers, we listen to your ideas and spend time with each individual client to understand their preferences and needs. When our clients tell us about how they met and any up and down in their courtship in the meeting, we soon develop a mental note and try to incorporate these ideas into the final production. Therefore, each video production is completely personalized and catering to each individual's taste with intensive care. As you will see on our website, no two wedding movies are alike. What we believe and do can be spelled out by 4-F phrases, which are fun, flexible, focus and friendly. 1) We want you to have fun through out the entire process. The fun begins when you initially visit our website and will continue as a lifetime friendship. 2) We only do one wedding at a day so we are flexible to work with your schedule to make sure we cover your entire day flawlessly. 3) We focus on covering every bit detail of your love story and wedding process to assure you a quality wedding story that you will have fun watching it again and again. 4) We are friendly video journalists to work with and we can easily put you and your guests at ease in front of our camcorders. We aim to transform your day into a lifetime memory so all the generation to come can share the joy with you. If you do not like to be directed and look forward to seeing candid shots and emotional moments in your wedding movie, come and talk to us. We seek to wow you by our detail and result oriented video services.
